top baby stores in south africa

Trying to find the Best Baby stores in South Africa? Don’t worry this post has you covered!

We chatted to over 2000 moms on the Momsays platform to find out which baby stores they prefer shopping at (online and in-store).

Haven’t signed up for Momsays yet? Sign up here and get an opportunity to work with the best baby brands in the industry!

We rounded up a list of stores for you based on the votes we received in the Momsays Awards 2017. All the stores listed below either focus on Mom and Baby only or offer a huge range of products for Mom and Baby.

Is online shopping better than in-store?

The truth is online shopping is more convenient especially if you are highly pregnant, hate crowds or if shopping with the kids is a nightmare.

Most online stores give you access to everything the brand has available and sometimes might even offer better deals than in-store.

I still prefer shopping in-store for new products especially when it comes to clothing because the experience online just isn’t the same. I love touching and feeling the material before making my final decision. I only shop online for products I already know and love.

Best Baby stores voted by moms in South Africa:

1. Baby City (Winner)

Baby City has been around for a long time, with the first store opening in 1992, in Durban. The brand now has 27 stores countrywide. If you want to visit a store that has everything for baby with reasonable pricing, Baby City should be your first stop. They are also at the MamaMagic Baby Expo every year.

Sonnette Smit says: “The service is absolutely amazing! I had lots of unused disposable nappies which were too small for my baby girl and they exchanged it for a bigger size with no hesitation. All the stores are always stocked with whatever you need and staff are so friendly. Baby City for the win!”

2. Babies R Us (Online and in-store)

Babies R Us is part of the Toys R us franchise so with many of the stores shutting down internationally, I am not too sure how long the brand will survive in South Africa. With that being said, many moms here in SA still prefer this store because they offer you a mix of products to suit everyone’s budget. They currently have 60+ stores nationwide and sell all the essentials from baby gear to playful toys.

Thato Mma Nthati says: “Babies R Us always caters for all pockets Worldwide. Quality toys. Spacious. Monthly Specials. World class!!”

3. Baby Boom

Baby Boom has a huge selection of products available that will fulfil your needs from baby’s birth through to toddlerhood, as well as taking the needs of parents and caregivers into consideration.

4. Kids Emporium (Online and in-store)

Kids Emporium is a children’s boutique store where innovation meets quality – all under one roof. I absolutely love Kids Emporium – mainly because they sell some unique products that you might not come across in other baby stores.

Léandra Krige says: “Love that they support the local designers in SA (Franki and Kikki) and international brands (Sophie la giraffe). Wide variety and affordable. Keep up the good work Kids emporium.”

5. Takealot.com (Online)

Takealot.com is one of South Africa’s most popular e-commerce stores. The reason why I love shopping on this website is mainly because of the daily deals (you get some good deals) and they stock almost everything from nappies to formula!

6. Faithful to Nature (Online)

If you’re a mom who loves all things natural, then Faithful to Nature will make your bookmark list! They have a huge selection of products available for Mom, Baby, and the home.

7. A Zee Baby World (Online and in-store)

Khadijah Moolla says: “I love them because they range lower end to higher end and the best quality products, e.g. If you looking for a chelino or a Stokke you can find both at one store, they have a wide variety with so many products and brands under one roof, def my number one store.”

8. Koco Bino (online and in-store)

Koco Bino is a unique boutique store for babies, toddlers, young kids, and moms-to-be. In 2015, Koco Bino launched its own range of clothes: Koco Bino for Kids. Their stylish and high-quality garments have already gained a reputable place in the South African market.
