15. The Cherry Tomatoes Gardening Club
The Cherry Tomatoes Gardening Club will be hosting its next holiday club from 11 – 15 December at GardenShop Bryanston and the REEA Vegetable Gardens in Craighall Park. The three-hour long classes include lots of gardening and environment-focused conversations, making nature-themed crafts, story time, and healthy snack time.
Gardening is a great way to get children to engage with nature and spend more time outdoors, and the Cherry Tomatoes Gardening Club focuses on making it both fun and relaxing for them.
“Many physical extra murals are competitive or involve serious concentration from children” says Nicola Brown, co-founder of the Cherry Tomatoes Gardening Club. “Gardening is an enjoyable way for children to spend time outside, exercising, learning at their own pace, and in a small group where they can engage with others and make new friends”.
Other benefits of gardening include encouraging healthier eating, appreciating the journey of food from the garden to the table, and developing important life skills like patience, responsibility and collaboration.
Classes are kept small as the teachers focus on engaging with children individually, following their thoughts and observations and weaving them into the overall lesson.
Dates: 11 – 15 December 2017
Time: 9am – 12pm
Cost: R1000 for the week or R300 per day
Ages: 4 -9
