LeapFrog LeapBand [Review + Competition]

LeapFrog has always been one of my favorite brands to go to for educational toys. They offer quality products that can be passed down from your first child to the second and the third! 😉

Kitana received a few of their products from family and friends on her 1st birthday and 3 years later Kiaan is using them.

Technology has taken over and it has changed the way we workout or even interact with other people.

It’s scary but exciting too.

Every parent want their kids to be active! Exercise is important… but how do we make it fun for them?

Blogging

LeapFrog created a product to help you with just that; combing technology and exercise together.

The LeapBand is the only activity tracker made for kids that encourages active play and healthy habits with 50 fun challenges.

LeapBand from LeapFrogFeatures:

  • 50 Fun Active Challenges
  • 8 Customizable Pets
  • On-Device Games & Rewards
  • Analog/Digital Watch
  • Hi-Res Screen
  • Adjustable Band
  • USB Connectivity
  • Accelerometer
  • Rechargeable Battery
  • Water Resistant
  • Parental Controls
  • Free Companion App – Petathlon Games for select devices
  • LeapFrog Connect Enabled

The LeapBand teaches your child about:

  • Food & Nutrition
  • Gross Motor Skills
  • Health & Hygiene

What I love:

  • Customize & play

I think the biggest reason why I will keep using it for Kitana is because it is educational and it encourages exercise.

It gets my daughter excited to work out because she has an “exercise” buddy. Your child can choose a name for the pet and color which makes it more personalized for play.

  • Pet nurturing

This feature made my daughter feel so special because she felt like the pet was her “baby” and she needed to take care of him by feeding and playing with him on a regular basis.

  • Challenges

The device comes pre-loaded with 14 challenges to get kids moving with active and imaginative activities. With LeapFrog Connect, you can set up to 36 LeapBand challenges such as “Dance like a chicken” and “Walk like a penguin” to get kids more active.

  • Healthy habits

In Pet Chef, kids can help their pet collect food to make healthy snacks and unlock nutrition fun facts. This encouraged my daughter to try out something new because her buddy had eaten it too.

  • Quiet time

I love that the device can enable quiet time for school and sleeping. It helps maintain a routine.

  • Parent in Charge

When you download the software on your computer (LeapFrog Connect), you have access to the backend of the device. It allows you to control almost everything! You can set the challenges, activities and enable the quiet mode hours.

  • Clock

The device also has a built-in watch so your child can learn time.

  • Activity report

LeapFrog connect gives you access to a weekly report where you can see how active your child was during the week and how many joules they earned. Kids can earn “joules” via the activities which help them unlock more pets.

It seems Kitana is more active over the weekend especially on a Saturday morning according to the app.

  • Petathalon Games

If you have a LeapFrog Ultra, smartphone or tablet your LeapBand can extend your play with this App.

Your Pet can participate in other Petathalon sports and earn more jewels and rewards as you play.

WHAT I DISLIKE:

  • Battery life

The battery dies quickly and it can get frustrating to charge on a regular basis via USB. I wish they offered a charging deck to make it a bit easier especially when traveling.

  • Bulky

The watch is a bit bulky so it doesn’t really look nice on my daughter’s hand because she is so tiny. I think the style of the LeapBand can be improved to make it more fashionable.

  • No touch screen

Would be a cool feature to add on to what is an already awesome product.

  • No volume control

I really thought that this would be an obvious option.

  • No step counter

This would take the LeapBand to a whole new level.

  • Plastic wristband

It can get uncomfortable if worn too long.

  • No accessories

Would be cool if we can change the wristband colors.

LeapBand

It comes in 4 different colors and can be used for from age 4 until 7 years.

My daughter’s favourite activity at the moment is reading. I should really not complain as its great that she is so into reading and her reading skills are really far above her age average. Would love to win this for her so that she has a little motivation to be active too!
