Rosendal is a hidden gem, boasting breathtaking sights and plenty of rural character. From art appreciation to sporty activities, from horseback riding to picnics, from rock engravings to engaging farming activities – there is something for everyone in this magical town.

The town is near the Lesotho border which is an ideal base for excursions to many places, such as Katse Dam, Afriski, Golden Gate and the small towns of the Eastern Free State. There are many significant sandstone buildings in the area which are definitely worth seeing.
We spent 3 nights at The Rosendal Country retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This is an ideal place to rest and rejuvenate.

Here’s what I love about The Rosendal Country retreat:
It’s a family-friendly spot.
This is an ideal destination for couples, but if a family vacation is more your style, this place has you covered too. With bunk beds and interleading room options, you can bring the kids along without any problem!

There are no TVs or Wi-Fi in the room.
I know many people may not like this but I love that The Rosendal Country retreat is all about disconnecting from the outside world and reconnecting with yourself and your loved ones.

Even though there’s no TV or Wi-fi in the room, there is a communal lounge that has Wi-Fi and loads of board games and books to keep you entertained.

Self-catering with braai facilities.
The Rosendal Country retreat is a self-catering spot. They have twelve beautiful self-catering units.
The kitchenette has the following:
- 2-plate gas stove
- Microwave oven
- Small fridge
- Toaster
- Utensils, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans
- Coffee plunger
- Coffee, tea, sugar, sweetener, milk,
- Salt, pepper and olive oil

There are no stores like Checkers or Woolworths nearby so make sure you stock up on all your essentials except charcoal before heading into the town.
Farm fresh goods at your doorstep.
On our arrival, we were presented with a generous gift of bread, butter and jam as well as fresh milk that was delivered every day – it all tasted delightful.

Make sure to explore the nearby area of your retreat! Not only is it a great way to get to know the locals and their culture, but you can also find a few spots to enjoy lunch or a snack. Don’t forget to sample all that this town has to offer!

Everyone is so friendly and works together.
The hospitality here is impeccable. I love that everyone works together to promote and build the town.
