Moving from Durban to Johannesburg was a big change for me. Life in Johannesburg is busy, people are always on the move and sometimes get so caught up in their career that they forget to take a break. I never thought I would find places in the city to escape for just a couple of hours and feel like I’m far away from my busy lifestyle.
Right in the heart of Sandton lies a hotel which everyone knows and adores: The Michelangelo hotel. When you talk about sophistication and art, they have it all. Located on Nelson Mandela Square, ‘Africa’s Business and Lifestyle Capital’, The Michelangelo is the very essence of status and success.
The Michelangelo hotel spa is styled out of the romance that is the Renaissance era and taking a leaf from the décor and design of the magnificent Michelangelo Hotel where it takes its residence. The spa provides customers an array of leading treatments from its four treatment suites, two manicure stations and two pedicure stations.Guests who want to make a day of relaxing can also enjoy its pause areas where light meals, prepared from the Michelangelo kitchens, are served between treatments.
Couple weeks back Vije and I were invited to an afternoon of pamper at this lovely spa. Entering the hotel and making my way to the spa already made me feel like a million dollars. I was blown away by the architect of the building and the service received from everyone I met. While making my way to the spa, I came across an inviting pool which was heated and perfect for the weather. The pool led us into a world of treatments. On arrival I was greeted by the friendly staff which asked me immediately what I would like to drink, now that’s the service you would expect in a place like this. After cracking a few jokes with the staff, we went on a tour of the spa.
The spa offers a variety of treatments which includes massages to grooming treatments. Guests can unwind in their upstairs relaxation area, enjoy the hydro pool or magnificent outdoor shower, alternatively you can also make use of the sauna and steam room. We were invited to indulge in their signature treatment: Michelangelo Tranquility Ritual. With warm oil and music that made me relax, I zoned out into an island of paradise. I really did fall asleep ..
I didn’t even bother talking to Vije which I normally do, just to annoy him :)! Seriously it was ama-zingg! I zoned back in when my therapist told me its over. The treatment consisted of a fully body massage and an express facial. The spa is not exactly big but it still offers what you need and delivers. The products used in the treatment definitely made me want to go back for more. I am very pleased with the service and would recommend this spa to anyone. The prices are not ridiculously high like I thought it would be.
Sometimes its nice to try different places even if you’re just doing your eyebrows. A change of scenery can make your day. After our treatment, we decided to stay for high tea.. I will tell you all about that in my part 2 😉 ..
